Look of the Day

Look of the Day

Hello beauties! Sorry it’s been so long since I last posted. I have quite a few new products to review now that Sephora Chic Week is over, but my face has been breaking out like crazy! Can anyone recommend some good skincare? I have a sample of Clinique’s new Clinical Clearing Gel that I’ll try tonight, but I never know what to buy and I’m so afraid of irritating my skin!

Well, spring has sprung, today was a beautiful day and I wanted a pop of color while I was out running errands. I decided to match my favorite sunglasses and new scarf! Turquoise was speaking to me and this look did the trick.

On eyes: Urban Decay 24/7 Shadow Pencil in Clash (used as a liner), Too Faced Chocolate Bar eyeshadows in White Chocolate all over and Milk Chocolate in crease, Urban Decay Anti-Aging Primer Potion, Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in Zero on upper waterline, Too Faced LashGasm Mascara, Anastasia brow powder.
On cheeks: Benefit Cosmetics Poisetint.
On lips: Clinique Long Last Glosswear in Kissyfit.
On face: Benefit Porefessional, Urban Decay Naked Skin foundation and 24/7 Concealer Pencil.

And if you’re interested, my earrings and scarf are from Charming Charlie, the sunglasses are from Francesca’s (but I bought them last year). Anyone want to share their Chic Week picks? I bought a few duds unfortunately, and they have been returned. :( However, I LOVE my new Too Faced finds from the Pardon My French set. Let me know what you scored in the comments!

Sephora Chic Week Is Here!

Sephora Chic Week Is Here!

From March 30-April 11, Sephora is having their annual 15% off sale. I’m SO excited because I will be attending the VIB Rouge private shopping event on Sunday morning. I’m starting my wish list now and the Urban Decay Electric palette is my #1 must-have. I didn’t see it in-store earlier this week, but it’s up online. Fortunately, you can shop online or in stores with no limit. What are your top picks?

Sephora + Pantone Universe Radiant Rush

Hello beauties! Color of the Year is HERE, so I’m FINALLY showing off my Sephora + Pantone Universe Radiant Rush Matte Lipstick. I had the option to pre-order from Sephora as a VIB Rouge so I’ve worn it a couple times, but it hasn’t been photographing well inside with my limited equipment. This is an interesting color and I really wanted to do it justice.

First off, the packaging is really neat. I like how the square tube is angled in the box. It seems the top is magnetic to hold it on to the base.

Ahh, brand new lipstick. One of life’s simple pleasures. Is there anything better? Please forgive me if the photo is a little blurry!

So far I’ve done a couple looks when wearing this lipstick, the first with a sparkly white eye, then another with Chopper (glittery chopper) and Sin (shimmering pink champagne) and both  with cool-toned blush. But I’m trying to use this blog to push out of my comfort zone, so I decided to let the lipstick be the star of the show and go for a completely naked eye for the first time since… hmm, probably ever.

I also dug into the rarely-used darker side of my Anastasia brow powder duo for an extra-bold brow and finished the look with Benefit Lollitint, in keeping with the radiant orchid theme.

Someone told me I look terrible like this! But I thought it was fun.

These lip pictures feel so silly to take, but I know they’re useful to me when I’m scoping out product reviews.

So this product is being advertised as a matte lipstick, and if you’ve read any other reviews (or you have eyes and just looked at my photos) you know that’s not true. It’s really more of a satin finish. However, I really liked the feel of the product. Just one sweep packs a decent amount of pigment, but you can blot or layer to adjust to your liking. The lipstick is not too dry, but not super glossy either. It lasted through a meal on Saturday but I will warn that it stained my lips like no other product I’ve used, even with a lip primer, and my lips are dark for my complexion. Another pitfall is that purple tones can make your teeth appear more yellow! Hence no smiling.

Despite that, I was slightly disappointed the color didn’t lean more purple. It’s more of a magenta. There are some dupes out there- although I don’t have an extensive collection of bold lip colors, Revolution Lipstick in Anarchy by Urban Decay would be the closest match in my stash. For some reason I really have purple everything, especially lips, on my brain. And pastels. Lucky for me I just ordered Rollergirl and Mannequin Lip Tars from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics!

I’m on the fence if this is a good color for me personally. Anyone that has thoughts, I’d love to hear them! Definitely go by Sephora and check out the Pantone collection- all the products are drool-worthy. If the color flatters your skin tone, this a great buy! At $18, you would pay a lot more for a high-end lipstick of similar quality.

Treat Yo Self: Mini Sephora haul + free goodies

Treat Yo Self: Mini Sephora haul + free goodies

Here’s my latest little haul, which includes the Radiant Rush Matte lipstick from Sephora + Pantone Color of the Year. So excited to try this… I’ll be posting a review soon.

I also picked up a Tocca hand cream and rollerball set in Florence, a yummy blend of gardenia and bergamot- so feminine and romantic! Florence isn’t one of the hand cream scents regularly available, so I was really excited to snag this. Plus, the rollerball is a decent size, slightly larger than a deluxe sample for comparison.

I also got two 100 point perks: Urban Decay Naked lipgloss in Lovechild and Too Faced Primed & Poreless oil free face primer. I haven’t tried the primer yet, but I like to carry a mini around in my daily makeup bag for emergencies. I quickly swiped the UD gloss and I wasn’t bowled over by the formula or saturation of color. I’ll stick with Lip Junkie, but I can always use a mini lippie for my purse. (Who’s with me??)

Finally, the free stuff. Honestly, sometimes I enjoy my freebies as much as my full-size products. :) Samples are Fresh soy face cleanser, Katy Perry Killer Queen, Phyto Hydration Express conditioner, and a deluxe sample of Lancome Lip Lover in Framboise Etoile (a new product).

When it comes to online orders, something about a package bursting with little treats can be just as (sometimes more) satisfying as finding the latest mega-palette on my doorstep. What do you think?

Get it while you can… Urban Decay Anarchy Face Case

Deal alert! Sephora still has Urban Decay’s Anarchy Face Case in stock, on sale for $29. This is such a steal considering the original price was $44. This palette includes five eyeshadows (four new, one re-release), two blushes, one highlighter, a travel-size eye pencil and full-size lip pencil.

Urban Decay - Anarchy Face Case

I recommend this palette for the amazing value at the sale price. Currently this particular shade of Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Color, Scandal, is available only on Urban Decay’s web site and retails for $20. I don’t wear a lot of bold lip color but this one is SO PRETTY. The 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Perversion (one of my all-time fave products) is a travel-size but according to my math is approximately a $13 value. Even if the shadows don’t seem enticing (which is understandable as four of the five are glittery!) the lip pencil and eyeliner make this worth the money, think of everything else as a bonus. Additionally, I was impressed with the quality of the blushes- they’re so smooth and pigmented, a real find since UD only sells the Naked Flushed palettes and no individual blushes at this time. The down side is I felt like the eyeshadows don’t wear quite as long as other UD products I’ve used in the past and they’re mostly glittery with quite a bit of fallout.

I’ve seen other bloggers venture into depotting everything from the case, which can be tricky because of the mirrors on the top of both sections. For now I’ll keep it all together- I wouldn’t say this is the most versatile palette I own, but everything works in harmony for a fantastic evening look. This was a holiday release so these colors are ready to party! Pick up this little steal and stash it in your desk drawer to transition to happy hour.

Here’s a quick look I did for going out to dinner with friends last night! I used all the shadows except Provocateur, the glittery mauve.

Moved my bangs so the eyeshadow is more visible. :)

photo(1)Eyes: Fray (matte mauve) from lashline to brow, Vaporize (shimmery taupe with silver glitter) on lids,
Redemption (dark frosty gray with silver glitter) in crease and on lower lashline, Revolt (metallic silver with silver glitter) on inner corner with a dab on the browbone, eye pencil in Perversion, Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara and Benefit Stay Don’t Stray eye primer in light/medium.

Cheeks: Quickie (matte hot pink) blush and Craze (sheer shimmery gold) highlighter.

Lips: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil in Ozone, Urban Decay Lip Primer Potion (not currently available, I picked up two of these on sale for more than 50% off over the holidays, so I have a feeling it’s about to relaunch with a reformulation or new packaging), Urban Decay Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Scandal (metallic raspberry pink).

Coming up: my Sephora order should be delivered today, which means I’ll have my first look at the Radiant Rush Matte Lipstick from the new Sephora + Pantone Color of the Year Radiant Orchid collection! OOH…AHHH :) It’s finally up online and I’m just drooling over the pretties, y’all. I’m also working on a post showing off my first-ever mini haul from my color junkie soul sisters at Sugarpill Cosmetics! Plus, the Urban Decay Electric Pressed Pigment Palette launches on urbandecay.com in 5 days! I’m still on the fence about when to buy…

Look of the day!

Today’s look features colorful eyes courtesy of Too Faced’s Be Bright palette (part of the Be Merry & Bright release for holiday 2013). I used Marshmallow, a shimmery pink, from lash line to brow, then Bright Eyes (pearly hot pink) in the inner corners and Sequin (frosty dark teal) in the outer corners and crease. Both colors are also on each half of the lower lash line. I also tapped a little Mauvelous (glittery mauve) on the brow bone, but it’s not really visible in this lighting.

For everything else: Lollipop blush and Inner Light luminizer from Too Faced Be Bright palette on cheeks. Only a subtle wash of color is visible here but in natural light it looked like I dunked my whole head in teeny-tiny glitter…fun! Eyes: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Perversion, Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. Lips: Clinique Chubby Stick in Super Strawberry.

Hello world!

Hello world!

My name is Amanda and this is my new beauty blog! All my life I have loved dressing up and playing with makeup- more than a few of my childhood teddy bears suffered from excessive applications of my mom’s blush and eyeshadow taken covertly from her vanity. When I was younger, I was in dance and though I wasn’t great at the actual dancing, I lived for the costumes and makeup used for performances. Of course, Halloween is possibly my favorite holiday because I love to create unique looks (hello, office costume contest winner!). About three years ago I got into buying up high-end products like crazy, and my family and friends have told me that I should share my enthusiasm for the transformative powers of makeup with others! I love to read and write, which lead me to graduate with a journalism degree in 2010. But here’s my secret- I’m thinking about switching industries to a career in makeup artistry. Shh! ;) This is my space to create, play and share it all with the world. I love anything bold and colorful!

Winter weather is still hanging on, but spring product releases are everywhere. This quick look is my tribute, focusing on bright, spring pastel eyes. It was created with Kat Von D’s Esperanza palette (limited edition, Sephora exclusive). This is a great release packed with eight beautiful shades in a mix of pastels and brights with matte and shimmer finishes. I found it tricky to work with at first, but Too Faced Glitter Glue saved the day- it’s my go-to product for dealing with glitter fallout and powdery shades that appear sheer with my daily primer, Urban Decay Primer Potion Original.

Kat Von D - Esperanza Eyeshadow Palette

Products used include: eyes- Kat Von D eyeshadow from the Esperanza palette (Archangel and Selena), Anastasia brow powder, Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Perversion and Clinique High Impact mascara, lips- NARS lipstick in Dolce Vita (another fave!), skin- Urban Decay Naked Skin foundation. Soon I hope to post tutorials and full product lists for anyone interested in what I’m using (maybe even videos, who knows)! Anyone reading please let me know what you’d like to see. :)

Finally, I chose to call this blog “Create Something Beautiful Today” because every morning we all have the opportunity to do just that. I often think of my face as a blank canvas displaying beautiful yet fleeting art that will be washed away before bedtime. But creating beauty in life is not only about what we put on our faces, it’s about what we have in our hearts and minds. With a fresh face, we can create a beautiful life of our own choosing! I hope this blog will be a place where I can share my creativity and inspiration, and hopefully inspire others as well.

Dolce vita,

Amanda K
